The Central Naval Museum is one of the oldest museums in Russia. The Museum originated in the St. Petersburg Model Chamber founded by Peter I in 1709. In 1939 the Central Naval Museum was transferred to the Stock Exchange building, the focal point of the best architectural ensembles in St. Petersburg - the Spit (Strelka) of Vasilyevsky Island. All history of the Russian fleet has found reflection in exposure and extensive assembly of a museum. For almost three centuries of the existence the museum became by the integral part of Naval Fleet, and history of a museum - by a part Naval history.
