The State Russian Museum is the world's largest museum of Russian art. It opened on March, 7th (19), 1898 and became the first state museum of Russian art in Russia. Collections of Russian museum total about 400 000 exhibits. Products of all basic directions and schools of the domestic fine arts are presented in them, all its kinds and genres from X till XX century. The museum is placed in four buildings located in the historical center of St.-Petersburg. These buildings are Stroganovsky and Marble palaces, Mihailovsky (Engineering) Fortress and the main building of museum – Mihailovsky palace with Benua case.
